Haldiram to extend snacks portfolio

Haldiram Manufacturing Company Limited is planning a foray into western snack foods. The company will introduce new categories of snacks such as cookies, ready-to-eat flavoured popcorns and cheese balls over the next six to eight months, says a newspaper report.

Till now, Haldiram's presence in the western snack foods segment has been restricted to potato chips, though of late, its exclusive restaurants have also started offering products such as french fries and ice-cream.

The company is also planning to market convenience food products in the ready-to-eat format, such as paneer, pulao, dal and vegetables. Namkeens currently account for about 70 per cent of HMCL's total sales, with indigenous sweets and sherbets bringing in the rest.

HMCL is targeted at the northern market while two other companies from the group cater to markets in the East, West and South.
