Times Food Processing Journal reviews the recently held PFFCA packaging awards in Mumbai

When it comes to the processing of food and beverages, the buzzwords are consumer protection, food hygiene, traceability and competitive pricing. Today, the demand is greater then ever for innovative, flexible solutions that go beyond sector and technological boundaries. In this dynamic trade scenario, Anuga FoodTec - the international trade fair for food and drink technology scheduled for the fourth time in Cologne from April 4-7, 2006, holds special significance. The fourth Anuga FoodTec, spread over an area of one lakh sq m, will be the world's only trade fair whose cross-sector concepts would cover all aspects of processing, packaging, hygiene, storage and distribution as they relate to food production. Jointly organised by Koelnmesse GmbH and the German Agricultural Society (DLG), Anuga FoodTec 2006 promises to be the ultimate business platform for making investments in the food and drink industry and for accessing latest technological innovations in this sector.

Past performance
The true value of Anuga FoodTec 2006 can be gauged from the performance of the fair's past editions. An extremely positive figure posted by Anuga FoodTec 2003 confirmed its leading international position in the food and drink technology sector. Statistics point out that, between April 8-11, 2003, the fair attracted 34,533 trade visitors from 134 countries, as compared to only 111 countries in 2000. In 2003, the proportion of visitors from abroad also rose to 54 per cent. The 2003 edition of the fair further saw an increase in the number of exhibitors. Of the 1,115 exhibiting companies from 44 countries (in 2000: 1,053 companies from 37 countries), 47 per cent came from abroad.

New target markets
