To
level with Laval
Regulations,
lack of funds and red-tapism plague the industry, complains the 120-year-old
equipment giant, Alfa Laval
It
was Gustaf De Laval who invented a continuous separator in 1877 for
separating cream from milk and in 1883 it marked the beginning of a
new company in Sweden called Alfa Laval AB. The invention revolutionised
the dairy sector by commercialising the milk processing activity. Today
Alfa Laval is a global company with a significant presence in nearly
hundred companies, 20 manufacturing units and 70 parts and service centres.
Even
after 120 years, Alfa Laval can still be spotlighted for having very
close ties with the food industry as they have been installing equipment
and projects for the production of dairy products, fruit concentrates,
vegetable oils, beer, starch and so on.

With
it’s headquarter in Pune, Alfa Laval in India is a listed company with
an annual turnover of Rs 300 crore. The company offers key technologies
– centrifugal separation, membrane filtration, heat transfer and fluid
handling to varied sectors like food processing, vegetable oil processing,
brewery, starch, distillery, winery, fish and meat processing, chemical,
energy, marine and effluent handling to name a few.
Besides
it has expertise in the manufacturing of fabricated vessels in stainless
steel of various grades as well as in exotic metals like nickel, titanium,
copper, cupro-nickel and tantalum.
Wholesome
experience
Food
must be perceived as fresh and tasty, having good colour, consistency
and nutritional value without the aid of artificial preservatives, colouring
and additives. To achieve this food manufacturers face a number of critical
quality issues such as product integrity during the manufacturing process,
production reliability and performance.
They
also offer customised solutions based on specific technological innovations,
which comply with FDA (Food Development Authority) regulations.
Milk,
and milk products have been their focus area in the food sector but
over the last hundred years, Alfa Laval has developed equipment and
process systems for various other food processing segments.
There
are additional hygiene and quality requirements attached to food than
to any other commodity. They have ISO 9000:2000 certification from
Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), UK that ensures the quality
of their products.
Focus
on food
For
food processors it is essential that they select the right suppliers
in order to ensure high quality and consistent products. Within the
food processing segment Alfa Laval enjoy’s a market share of over 70
per cent. The company manufactures and supplies equipment for the following
food
industries:
