The divine sip

A fair with a difference, RIWSF 2006 is the annual meeting place for key players in the wine and spirits industry, says Times Food Processing Journal

The alcoholic drinks segment has been one of the fastest growing consumer markets in Russia and the industry is now heavily dependent on imports of wine, wine materials and spirits. For the same reason, RIWSF (the Russian International Wine and Spirits Fair) is considered as the annual meeting place for the wine and spirits sector in country and the surrounding regions. RIWSF which is the country's only dedicated trade event of its kind, will take place at Expocentr, Moscow from October 17-19, 2006.

Why Russia?
Producers and distributors from around the world are becoming increasingly aware of Russia as an export market and considering its current and projected growth rate, most industry professionals now view Russia as a vital part of any successful sales and marketing strategy. This fact is clearly reflected by the growing number of international organisations who take part in the RIWSF. Exhibitors from a variety of countries worldwide come together under one roof to exhibit side by side with their local and regional peers in order to claim their share of this vast and dynamic market place.

Features
The RIWSF would be an action-packed event, with the introduction of a new Spirits Sector and dedication of more space to the cigar industry. Besides, the show will welcome a striking number of national and international pavilions, with the organisers having already taken on extra space in accordance with the demand. The international conference will provide a professional forum to discuss some of the most topical issues affecting the Russian alcohol industry, from both a national and international perspective. Similarly, a variety of competitions will be held to recognise and promote the top performers in the industry.

Past performance
Statistics reveal that in 2005, trade professionals from 34 different countries had visited the show to catch up with their industry colleagues, find out about the latest developments in the market and make new contacts and taste wines and spirits from every corner of the globe. Top buyers in the industry attended the fair to expand their portfolio to include some of the top wines and spirits in the world.

Opportunities
A company can exhibit at RIWSF 2006 to introduce new products, attract new clients and business opportunities, build the brand's presence in the market and promote the company image, assess competition, pre-market entry research, attend conferences and seminars to learn about key developments within the industry and maintain existing client relationships.
