Study: Indians are food 'label'
conscious
A recent online survey conducted by AC
Neilsen suggested that Indians are among
the world's more conscious food shoppers
who 'always' check the nutritional labels.
According to the survey findings, about 41
per cent consumers in India check
nutritional labels when purchasing a
product for the first time. This
cautiousness is even more while buying
food products for children, as 21 per cent
of the Indian respondents claimed to
check nutritional labels when buying food
products for children - a proportion that is
higher than any other country. However, it
was also found that though consumers
check labels, they don't necessarily
understand it. Almost 46 per cent of the
country's respondents admitted that they
partially understand labels, while five per
cent said that they don't understand
anything. While almost 52 per cent of the
Indian respondents claimed to check food
labels for fat content regularly,
preservatives and colouring were found to
be the other ingredients that 44-45 per
cent of Indians pay attention to.
